Previous games by Black Hammer include I Spy School Days (a reissue of the original I Spy title), and two I Spy Junior titles. Three separate treasure maps from different local pirates provide 20 locations, each filled with clues to solve the mystery. Map pieces are discovered by solving I Spy-style riddles found through exploration of the town. The activity in I Spy Treasure Hunt takes the player a step further than Spooky Mansion - once the map fragments are found and pieced together, players must then track down the treasure to one of the locations in the town. The educational adventure takes players to the tiny town of Smuggler's Cove, a location teeming with treasure maps from an old shipwrecked pirate vessel. I Spy Treasure Hunt is the third title in the series, and is designed in a similar style to the previous release I Spy Spooky Mansion.
